Stagiair: Sustainability Certification Specialist

New Optimist is a trailblazing social, local, and circular fashion start-up based located in Amsterdam. Here we run our local for local fashion brand that we make in the New optimist in house atelier. New Optimist is on a mission to bring system change to the fashion industry by promoting more local, social and circular fashion.

We are looking for a student position / apprentice to navigate New Optimist in the next steps in Sustainability Certifications

As a sustainability specialist at New Optimist, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our commitment to sustainable and ethical practices. Your main responsibility will be to oversee and organize certifications that align with our core values and contribute to our vision of creating a social and circular fashion industry. By collaborating with various stakeholders, you will help ensure that our garments meet stringent sustainability standards and maintain compliance with relevant certifications.

Responsibilities:

  1. Research and Identify Certifications: Stay updated on the latest sustainability certifications, standards, and regulations relevant to the fashion industry. Identify certifications that align with New Optimist's values and contribute to our mission.
  2. Certification Strategy: Develop a comprehensive certification strategy that outlines the certifications New Optimist should pursue. Consider the environmental, social, and ethical impact of each certification.
  3. Certification Process Management: Manage the certification process, including documentation, data collection, and submission requirements. Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to gather necessary information.
  4. Work closely with the product development, sourcing, and marketing team to integrate sustainability practices and certified materials into our garments and marketing materials.
  5. Assist in preparing sustainability reports, showcasing New Optimist's commitment to sustainability and the progress made towards achieving our goals.
  6. Participate in industry events, workshops, and conferences to stay informed about the latest developments in sustainability and circular fashion.

Qualifications:

  • Student in fashion or sustainability studies, environmental science, or a related field. Preferably with a background in fashion
  • Ideally already having demonstrated experience in sustainability certification management within the fashion or apparel industry.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability principles, circular economy concepts, and ethical fashion practices.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities
  • Passion for sustainable fashion and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact on the environment and society.
  • Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands but this apprentice can be done partly on remote
